Mendipathar situated in East Garo Hills
District and is 70km from the district head quarter Williamnagar. The people in
this region are mostly farmers and their occupation is agriculture. Besides
farming, they are also engaged in rubber plantation. Prior to the existence of
this co-operative society the rubber products of the small farmers were
exploited by the middlemen. With the registration of the Mendipathar
Multipurpose Cooperative society in December 1998 vide Regd.NoW-2/98-99 the
cooperative society started its activity with a temporary loan of Rs 5,000/-
they started procuring rubber sheet from the farmers where the price offered by
the society was higher than the prevailing market rate. The news spread to all
the nearby farmers and so they came to sell their products to the cooperative
society and from there onward the cooperative society has started progressing
and never looked back.

The society has its owned godown with a capacity of 400 MT, a retail out let in style of departmental store and a hall for imparting training to the members. This cooperative society is regarded to be one of the best cooperative societies in Meghalaya which has really lived up to the principles of cooperation.
