Umsaw Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. is a newly registered cooperative society in East Khasi Hills District which was registered on 21^st June, 2004 vide Regn. No. 4. It is situated in Mawlai constituency with its postal address, Umsaw Mawtawar which is 12 Km. from Shillong. In this village the total household is around 50 houses and they engaged themselves in agriculture. Though it is near from the city, yet there is no good communication, the roads are still in kutcha condition but it is understood that the Department for ‘Construction of Roads’ is under progress. So the people used four wheeled vehicles to transport their produces.

The Coop. Society’s main activity is rearing Cattle where they produce milk and supply to Veterinary Department which during the year they sold up to Rs. 13.48 lakhs and setting up of school. Other business undertaken by the Coop. society is marketing of ginger, manure and other local vegetables grown with organic.
