Umlyngka Primary Milk Producers Cooperative Society Ltd. in East Khasi Hills District was registered under Meghalaya Cooperative Societies Act vide its Reg. No. SHILL/4 of 1990 on 25.6.90. Umlyngka is a village situated at Upper Shilling where most of the local residents are farmers and cattle rearers. Initially, the society started with fourteen members only with share capital of Rs.6,000/- contributed by members only. The Society procures milk from the members and supply to the Veterinary Department at the Government approved rate. The Cooperative Society supply cattle feeds, medicine and other requirements to the members as well as to non-members also. It also imparts educational training to member and non-member with help and guidance from Veterinary Department. Since the area of operation of the Society is limited only to this particular village the progress made by the society is highly appreciable. As at present the position of the society is as follows :

Turn over of milk Production per annum  Rs. 1,32,000/-  Rs. 27,90,340/- 

The Society derive profit from the commission charge on the member as at present 0.20p per liter which during the year earns a net profit of Rs.12,073/-. The important landmark of this Cooperative Society is that it is the main milk supplier to the Veterinary Department for on toward distribution to the consumers of Shillong.
