The Women Net making and Cane Workers Industrial
Cooperative Society Ltd. was organized and registered under the Meghalaya
Cooperative Societies Act and Rules having its Registration No. SHILL- 145 of
1975 dt. 5.8.1975. and its registered address at
The Society is having a total membership of 69 and out of
which 30 members are skilled workers. The day-to-day affairs of the society was
managed by the managing committee consisting of 7 (seven) members including the
Chairman and the Secretary.
The main activities of the society are making of different
types of woven net i.e. Iarong, Iadep, Tynsong, Net Caps etc. which are made
from the by products of Pineapple called “Stein”. The society is also
involved in the making of flower basket, cane basket, cane trap, cane umbrella
and cane grip. The Society’s programme is to purchase new modern technique for
upgrading the quality of the thread (Stein) and for producing more quantity of
their products.
